Air FryerAir Fryer Chicken Breast
Chicken breast dries out fast in a regular oven because the whole cavity heats at once. An air fryer's tight, fast-moving hot air browns the outside before the inside has a chance to overcook — the closest you'll get to pan-seared juiciness without standing over a skillet.
- for the chicken
- 4 (6 oz) boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp onion powder
one breast per serving — great over rice, in a salad, or sliced for meal prep.
- Pound the thickest part of each chicken breast lightly so all four are roughly the same thickness — this is what keeps them from cooking unevenly.
- Pat dry, then rub with olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
- Arrange the breasts in a single layer in the basket, not touching. Air fry 16–18 minutes, flipping halfway, until they hit 165°F at the thickest point.
- Rest 5 minutes before slicing — this keeps the juices in instead of on the cutting board.
No smoked paprika? Regular paprika plus a pinch of chili powder gets close to the same color and warmth.
Breasts are very thick? Add 2–3 minutes and check with a thermometer rather than guessing — thickness varies a lot pack to pack.
Want it saucier? Toss the sliced chicken in barbecue or buffalo sauce right after resting.
No meat thermometer? Cut into the thickest part — the juices should run clear with no pink at the center.
Kantan tip — don't skip the preheat — starting from cold adds several minutes and dries the outside out before the inside catches up.
